Encounters Film Festival 2019

Encounters is the UK’s leading short film, animation and virtual reality festival.

The festival discovers, supports and develops new talent in filmmaking, providing a platform for emerging and established filmmakers from around the world, and continues to be a unique meeting place for the industry.

We will be attending Encounters Wednesday 25th, Thursday 26th and Friday 27th September.

A 5 film pass is £25 to be paid for via Weston College shop.

NAHEMI Showcase Screening

NAHEMI stands for the National Association of Higher Education in the Moving Image, and represents all of the major film schools and film production courses from around the UK and Ireland. Each year we present a selection of the best films made by film students from both undergraduate and postgraduate courses, and present awards for Creative Filmmaking, Cinematography and best Undergraduate Film. This programme presents the latest wave of new filmmaking talent from all over the country. There will also be a short Q&A panel with some of the student filmmakers present.

Tales of a New Age Traveller- Directed by Ellie Morgan - graduate of BA Lens Based Media, UCW, is part of this screening.


Immersive Encounters exhibition - Colston Hall

Wednesday/ Thursday/ Friday 10am

This year sees an expansion to the Immersive Encounters programme with additional depth and emphasis placed on the moving image outside of its traditional habitat of the cinema, presented with the support of Arts Council England.

Head to the Colston Hall to explore works mixing artist moving image and creative technology to inspire innovation and provoke discussion on new pathways for storytelling.

Friday September 20th 2019 UK, UK Student Climate Network are starting a week of action about Climate Change. In Weston super Mare - students are gathering at Town Hall from 9.

Our Exhibition - Climate - will discuss the role some Film makers and Photographers are having in this struggle, we are continuing to show Ellie Morgan’s ‘The Iron Lung’ Exhibition in the Gallery space (aka Costa Café) at University Centre Weston, Loxton Campus alongside screenings of Documentary films and videos related to Climate Change.

Exhibitions and Screenings will run from September 20th, 2019 though to October. 2019
