MOVEMENT/ STABILITY

How the camera moves (or remains locked off) is also an important consideration we need to take into account. As with all creative decisions you should be thinking about the shot you are using, the camera movement you are using and why you are shooting this way. How does it affect meaning? How does it affect the ‘reading of the film’… ?

In your video exercises and notes you should:

  • Show an understanding of different camera movements inc. Pan, Tilt, Dolly, Track, Zoom, Crane, Aerial (drone, plane, helicopter)

  • Show an understanding of difference between handheld camera, and tripod.

  • Show an understanding of the techniques and equipment used for making moving shots, including rigs, supports, gimbles, steadicam, crane’s/ jibs, dolly, track, drone’s and other tools to create moving shots.

  • Practice these shots and learn when to use them and why.
